Friday Aug 11, 2023 was one of those special days when we were invited to observe a heron release.
This heron had fallen from a tree at the Commodore Park colony and spent 2 or 3 days on the ground until it appeared in an area where we were able to see it and safely catch it. The heron was brought to PAWS Wildlife Center by two of our monitors – Emily and Shawn. After 24 days of care, PAWS determined it had passed their release assessment. What a wonderful feeling to see it soar into the air!
It wasn’t as great at landing but was fine. Thank you to all that helped rescue the heron – and to PAWS, who do an extraordinary job caring for wildlife!
